Okta is the leading independent identity company. As we continue scaling globally, M&A is a critical lever to accelerate growth, expand our platform, and drive innovation. We are seeking a Vice President of M&A to lead end-to-end deal execution efforts across Workforce Identity, Customer Identity, and adjacent markets.
Reporting directly to the EVP of Corporate Development, the VP of M&A will partner with Okta’s executive leadership, Board of Directors, and cross-functional teams to source, evaluate, and negotiate strategic acquisitions. This leader will combine rigorous financial and strategic acumen with the ability to manage complex, cross-functional processes in a fast-paced environment.
What you’ll be doing
Deal Sourcing & Evaluation
- Partner with product, GTM, and strategy leaders to identify market adjacencies and build actionable M&A theses.
- Maintain active relationships with founders, investors, and bankers to generate proprietary deal flow.
- Lead evaluation of potential targets, including strategic fit, financial modeling, valuation, and deal structuring.
Deal Execution
- Drive the end-to-end M&A process: due diligence, negotiations, contracts, approvals, and closing.
- Manage cross-functional diligence across Product, Finance, Legal, Security, People, and BT.
- Present recommendations to Okta’s executive team and Board of Directors.
Integration & Value Capture
- Partner closely with the dedicated Post-Merger Integration (PMI) team to design and oversee integration strategies.
- Ensure alignment on objectives across technology, people, and customers to capture deal value.
- Work with business and functional leaders to identify and track synergies, revenue opportunities, and operational improvements.
- Contribute to building and evolving Okta’s repeatable integration playbook, with emphasis on scalability and best practices.
Leadership & Influence
- Lead and mentor a small but high-performing M&A team.
- Collaborate with Corporate Strategy, Okta Ventures, and Business Development to align on priorities.
- Represent Okta externally with credibility to founders, executives, investors, and bankers.
What you’ll bring to the role
- 12–15+ years of experience in M&A, corporate development, or investment banking/private equity, with at least 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven track record of executing and integrating acquisitions at scale in SaaS, enterprise software, or cybersecurity.
- Strong financial modeling, valuation, and deal structuring expertise.
- Exceptional cross-functional leadership and project management skills; comfortable influencing without direct authority.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to distill complex issues into clear frameworks and recommendations.
- High integrity, executive presence, and strong communication skills (experience presenting to Boards a plus).
Why join Okta
