About the Role

The Routing Team crafts vital services that ensure Nuro Driver™ reaches destinations safely and efficiently. We continuously refine our routing engine to calculate more efficient routes, deliver highly accurate ETAs, and manage scalable traffic for every journey, adapting as our business / geolocation expands and mapping infrastructure evolves.

About the Work

  • Define and guide the routing roadmap, establishing the technical direction for all routing initiatives.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, cultivating a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.
  • Develop efficient onboard routing modules and integrating routing with online detected maps and the planning system.
  • Design and maintain scalable, distributed routing engines, prioritizing service reliability and high performance.
  • Define the routing ODD and scope, ensuring the safety of Nuro Drivers.
  • Research and evaluate state-of-the-art routing algorithms, systematically assessing route quality.
  • Integrate routing into product flows such as robotaxi services, tailoring the experience for end-users (e.g., rider pickup)

About You

  • MS/PhD degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or related technical field, with 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years in engineering leadership roles
  • Deep expertise in distributed systems, with hands-on experience building and scaling real-time cloud services and applications.
  • Possesses experience with large-scale algorithmic challenges, demonstrating the ability to balance correctness and performance.
  • Proven leadership experience managing and growing high-performing engineering teams, with a demonstrated ability to mentor and inspire technical talent.
  • Experience driving complex technical initiatives with stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
  • You are passionate about accelerating the benefits of robotics for everyday life.

At Nuro, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. For this position, the reasonably expected base pay range is between $193,930 and $291,150 for the level at which this job has been scoped. Your base pay will depend on several factors, including your experience, qualifications, education, location, and skills. In the event that you are considered for a different level, a higher or lower pay range would apply. This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus, equity, and a competitive benefits package.
