The Role
SoFi is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join a high-impact team at the intersection of traditional finance and the future of digital assets. We are building the next generation of institutional infrastructure, bridging the gap between our brand-new Commercial Banking suite and our re-entry into the Crypto space.
On this team, you will be architecting the foundation for SEN (SoFi Exchange Network)—a 24/7/365 closed-loop settlement network designed to serve large institutional clients in crypto, fintech, and enterprise finance. You will be in the middle of it all: implementing real-time payment rails, multi-account treasury management, and secure crypto custody solutions.
The ideal candidate is both a visionary architect and a hands-on builder. At SoFi, we pride ourselves on the collaboration between Product, Design, and Engineering. You will be involved in the entire product lifecycle—from ideation and shaping a new business line to deploying scalable services that handle institutional money from day one.
What You’ll Do
-
Architect & Build: Lead the development of highly available, scalable services for institutional banking and crypto investing, transfers, and settlement.
-
Bridge Ecosystems: Work on the infrastructure that allows institutional clients to manage fiat and digital assets seamlessly within the SoFi ecosystem.
-
Collaborate: Partner closely with Product and Business stakeholders to gather requirements and design solutions that align with both technical constraints and aggressive project timelines.
-
Lead & Mentor: Shape the technical culture, conduct design reviews, and mentor other engineers to help grow this brand-new business unit.
-
Drive Innovation: Generate ideas for new initiatives, leveraging SoFi’s banking charter to create industry-leading settlement rails.
-
Own the Lifecycle: Manage projects from inception through deployment, ensuring the health, security, and performance of the codebase.
What You’ll Need
-
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
-
Experience: 8+ years of programming experience, ideally on a modern stack.
-
Technical Proficiency: Our core stack is Kotlin / Spring / Elixir / PostgreSQL. You don’t need to be an expert in all of them, but you should have 6+ years in similar technologies and a deep understanding of relational databases.
-
Execution Mindset: A strong sense of ownership and a drive for delivery. We value shipping impactful features over polishing "perfect" code in a vacuum.
-
Collaborative Spirit: Experience working in a modern dev environment (Git, PR workflows) and a willingness to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.
-
Problem Solving: An affinity for solving complex distributed systems problems, particularly those involving high-stakes financial transactions.
Nice to Haves
-
Crypto Expertise: Understanding of blockchain fundamentals, distributed ledger technology (DLT), and hands-on experience with digital assets (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Stablecoins).
-
Institutional Finance: Familiarity with commercial banking operations, including custody, settlement, clearing, and treasury management.
-
Domain Knowledge: Awareness of crypto-specific regulatory environments (SEC, CFTC, MiCA) and experience with infrastructure providers like Fireblocks, Zero Hash, or Anchorage.
-
Network Effects: Experience building or integrating with real-time payment networks (RTW, FedNow) or exchange settlement networks.
-
Security: Comfort with cryptographic concepts such as wallets, key management, and digital signatures.
