About the team + role
The Detection & Response Platform and Tooling (DRPT) team builds and operates the platforms that give security teams clear visibility, high-quality signals, and dependable operational controls to protect customers and the business. The team works closely with Security, IT, and infrastructure partners to support day-to-day security operations and long-term platform scalability. DRPT focuses on durable systems, clear interfaces, and operational standards that support a growing product ecosystem. The team values pragmatic engineering, clear ownership, and thoughtful trade-offs.
As a Staff Software Developer, Security, you will serve as the technical lead for DRPT, shaping the platform roadmap and guiding how detection and response systems are designed, built, and operated! You will lead delivery across multiple initiatives, balancing hands-on engineering with technical direction and mentorship. This role sets standards for internal platforms and third-party security tooling, with a focus on reliability, clarity, and long-term maintainability. Your work directly supports the security needs of new products and customer segments as Robinhood grows.
The role is located in the office location(s) listed on this job description which will align with our in-office working environment. Please connect with your recruiter for more information regarding our in-office philosophy and expectations.
What you’ll do
- Lead end-to-end delivery for multiple platform initiatives, from technical proposals and system design through implementation, rollout, and ongoing operation.
- Partner with Security, IT, and platform engineering teams to translate operational needs into well-defined services and APIs, including ownership boundaries and service reliability targets.
- Design, build, and operate scalable systems for high-volume telemetry ingestion, detection-as-code workflows, and node-level runtime telemetry using technologies such as eBPF-based tooling.
- Provide technical mentorship through design reviews, code reviews, and regular feedback that strengthens system design skills and collaboration across teams.
- Evaluate and influence vendor and platform strategy by setting quality standards for third-party security tools and contributing input to vendor roadmaps.
What you bring
- You have several years of experience leading teams or large initiatives across design, planning, execution, and long-term maintenance with measurable outcomes.
- You remain hands-on in your work, contributing code, reviewing changes, debugging production issues, and evaluating tools and technologies as needed.
- You have experience designing and operating distributed systems or data and streaming pipelines in production environments.
- You can align partners across organizational boundaries by clearly explaining trade-offs, documenting decisions, and guiding work in ambiguous problem spaces.
- You have experience operating software against defined service reliability targets, using logs and metrics to diagnose issues, and participating in on-call rotations.
- You have a record of mentoring engineers through clear, practical technical guidance and feedback on collaboration and execution.
- You bring 8+ years of software development experience, including 5+ years designing and operating large-scale distributed systems.
- You are comfortable working in Go and Python.
- It’s a plus (not required) if you have experience with SIEM or data platforms such as Falcon Logscale (Humio), Splunk, or Databricks.
- It’s helpful (but not required) if you’re familiar with streaming and runtime telemetry tooling such as Kafka and Tetragon.
- Bonus (optional): experience with cloud-native systems, including Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform.
