About the Role:

We are seeking a Sr. Manager, Workplace Experience to lead our in-person and virtual workplace strategy and operations. Reporting to the Sr. Director, HR & Workplace Experience, you will oversee day-to-day operations at Betterment’s HQ in NYC and ensure an exceptional employee and visitor experience.

You will develop and scale processes, programs, and policies that support our growing workforce. Acting as a thought partner to Leadership, you will align engagement strategies with business priorities, identify gaps, and implement high-impact, employee-centric solutions that enhance key moments across the employee experience.

This role is based out of our NYC office. Below we've reflected the base salary range we would offer for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees. 

  • New York City: $120,000 - 140,000

This job may also be eligible for variable compensation in the form of a company incentive bonus.  For jobs based out of our NYC HQ, we require in office attendance Monday through Thursday, weekly.

A Day in the Life:

  • Create a positive and stimulating environment in line with Betterment’s culture and values
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for staff and vendors, and lead employee programming, events, and communications that strengthen community and connect distributed teams to Betterment’s mission 
  • Lead the design of company events like happy hours, company updates, holiday celebrations, wellness activities and more
  • Craft a repeatable framework or playbook for maintenance and operations that ensures our workplaces will operate at the highest functionality possible
  • Contribute to and manage workplace operating expense forecast and capital plan for construction and design projects in coordination with long-term headcount and location forecast from Finance and People Partners
  • Oversee day-to-day office operations, including visitor management and shipping/receiving mail and packages, ownership of food and beverage programs, and workplace safety protocols. 
  • Supervise all facilities-related issues including property management, security, janitorial, and repairs as needed 
  • Ensure best in class approach to defining, measuring and assessing employee experience and follow up action planning, working in strong partnership and collaboration across the People Team to bring this to life
  • Manage office renovations and moves as needed, working with internal and external partners to ensure all parties are aligned on plans

What We’re Looking For:

  • 5+ years of experience leading office management and developing a direct team, driving strong performance outcomes
  • Extensive experience supporting in-office and remote employees
  • Experience leading office budgeting, furnishing, office operations, vendor management, and maintenance
  • Passion for excellent customer service and delivering on small details while maintaining focus on the long-term big picture
  • Experience with forecasting, adhering to budgets and managing costs
  • Skilled in incident management and emergency/crisis response teams and efforts
  • Ability to communicate and partner with multiple stakeholders including senior executives to get things done
  • Experience working in corporate or high-growth settings with direct real estate experience (including office moves, renovations and buildouts), providing leadership in site selection, design and construction

What happens next

In the interview process, we’ll look to learn more about your skills, experiences, capabilities, and motivators. Many of our questions will be aimed at understanding how you might operate here at Betterment. Depending on the role, we may ask you to complete a case study exercise or technical assessments, as we want to collect a robust set of data points to better inform our decisions.

On average, it takes us around 3-5 weeks to make a hiring decision, depending on your availability and sense of urgency. As a best practice, we aim to interview at least 2-3 final round candidates before making a hiring decision. Please note that, as we usually receive an overwhelming number of  applications for open positions, we’re unable to offer individual feedback during the interview process.
