The Role
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the team responsible for building SoFi’s AI Financial Actions Engine, the intelligence layer that turns financial guidance into trusted, actionable recommendations. This team’s charter is to design and implement the financial actions and GenAI-powered recommendations that translate member goals and data into seamless execution opportunities across SoFi’s ecosystem.
As the engineering manager, you’ll own the full-stack technical roadmap, delivery, and team strategy. You’ll lead a team of engineers across backend and frontend to deliver scalable APIs, secure integrations, and experimentation systems that power real-time financial decisioning. You’ll work closely with Product, Design, Data Science, and Compliance to ensure every experience meets the highest standards of safety, trust, and effectiveness. You’ll also partner with the AI Agent and Experience teams to integrate these capabilities into SoFi’s Financial AI Agent, delivering intelligent, compliant, and frictionless experiences that help members take confident action toward their financial goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a team of engineers focused on building and scaling the AI Financial Actions Engine, powering GenAI-driven financial actions and recommendations across SoFi’s ecosystem.
- Own the planning, technical output, and delivery for the engineering team
- Maintain a high-performing team by setting a high bar for hiring and performance, and effectively coaching team members for continued growth.
- Shape and support the team culture with an emphasis on continual improvement, learning, and fun
- Establish and leverage strong relationships across the department and cross-functional leadership team.
- Take initiative and produce timely results in a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment
- Facilitate the definition of project scope, deliverables, and goals by closely working with product, design and business.
- Monitor and understand the key metrics governing your product area, with an eye toward continuously improving them through ongoing product innovation
Requirements
6+ years of experience designing, building, and operating scalable, mission-critical systems, with 3+ years leading engineering teams in high-performing tech organizations.Strong technical foundation with solid programming skills in modern web stacks and relational databases; comfortable diving into design and code reviews, and contributing hands-on when needed.Proven ability to architect, deliver, and operate secure, reliable, and high-quality systems using Agile development practices.Experience hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and collaboration.Familiarity with emerging GenAI and LLM technologies (e.g., Retrieval-Augmented Generation, prompt engineering, or AI agents) and enthusiasm for learning and applying new technologies.Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with a bias for action and a track record of driving initiatives from concept to completion.
