The Video Team is responsible for adaptive video playback and rendering, screen recording, camera capture, live video, video ads, video transcoding, and moderation. We develop on mobile, desktops, consoles, web, and our backend microservices platform. This is a hands-on role focused on Android with the opportunity to work across all the areas. This role is not a video codec research or implementation position; we only use industry-standard codecs.
You Will:
- Design, develop, optimize, and debug video capture, encoding, playback, and rendering focused on the Android platform using NDK APIs like Vulkan and AMediaCodec.
- Innovate, architect, and implement our vision for video in a 3D immersive environment.
- Have the opportunity to work across our platforms (desktop, mobile, and consoles).
- Have the opportunity to work on our backend microservices
- Collaborate with different teams all across Roblox to develop new uses of video.
- Be guided to create state of the art video tech for gaming industry
You Are:
- An experienced engineer with 5+ years of designing, developing, and debugging complex C++ applications running on Android.
- An expert with the wide variety of Android devices from junk to gold.
- Proficient with using Vulkan or OpenGL on Android in a performance oriented environment
- Knowledgeable within the video domain. You know the difference between AVC, HEVC, and AV1. You understand how video is compressed, delivered, and decoded. You don't have to look up the meaning of YUV or HLS. You love to pick up new technologies as the landscape evolves.
For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.
Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
