Where we Work

Udemy is a global company headquartered in San Francisco, with additional U.S. offices in Denver and Austin, and international hubs in Australia, India, Ireland, Mexico, and Türkiye. This is an in-office position, requiring three days a week in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and flexibility on Mondays and Fridays.

About this role

Are you passionate about shaping impactful user experiences through data-driven insights? At Udemy, we are seeking a Software Engineer to join our Data Services team. This dynamic team plays a pivotal role in building AI features in the Teach & Learn field and also builds the tools that empower other teams to deliver personalized user experiences through A/B testing and real-time event tracking.

As a key member of our team, you will collaborate with product managers, designers, and data professionals to build scalable solutions that enhance experimentation capabilities, streamline event tracking and more. Your work will directly contribute to better learning experiences for millions of users worldwide.

What you’ll be doing

Drive UI/UX best practices and ensure the development of responsive and maintainable front-end code.
Build new frontend pages and components that deliver engaging, real-time, data-driven experience.
Focus on ensuring seamless interaction between frontend and backend systems and delivering high-performance experience.
Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and translate them into scalable engineering solutions.
Collaborate closely with product, design, and data teams to ensure a smooth, integrated user experience.
Develop and maintain systems that support A/B testing, enabling data-driven decision-making.
Build robust tools for client-side and server-side event tracking to capture user behavior at scale.
Participate actively in daily standups, sprint planning, and retrospectives, working cross-functionally to drive product innovation.
Solve complex, high-impact technical challenges, continually refactor for robustness, performance, and scalability.
Ensure high-quality code and architecture through thorough reviews, testing, and documentation.

What you’ll have

5+ years of professional experience in frontend development and a proven ability to optimize for performance and scalability.
Expertise in JavaScript and TypeScript, knowledge of React (React Hooks, Functional Components), and experience building modern front-end applications.
Understanding of backend technologies (Kotlin, Python) and experience designing scalable, secure, and performant APIs (REST/GraphQL).
Understanding of designing, implementing, and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
Experience in optimizing code for performance and efficiency.
Experience in debugging and troubleshooting complex technical issues in a live production environment.
Experience in collaboration with medium-sized agile development teams, contributing to cross-functional projects.
Passion for learning, teaching, and contributing to a positive team culture.
Well organized, disciplined, and able to manage time and priorities effectively.
