About the Role

ClickUp is on a mission to make the world more productive — and that starts with delivering a product of the highest quality. We’re looking for an experienced SDET to help us scale automated testing for a modern, AI-powered, full-stack platform that reaches millions of users globally.

In this role, you’ll architect and evolve robust frameworks for backend API testing, frontend test automation, and integration-level validation across a hybrid monolith and microservices architecture. You’ll also partner with engineering and platform teams to implement AI-assisted testing solutions, improve quality signals in CI/CD, and enable developer velocity without compromising stability.

What You’ll Do
  • Drive Test Architecture
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable automation frameworks across API, integration, and UI layers using TypeScript, Playwright, and modern tooling.
  • Implement containerized test environments using Docker to support local and CI-based automation at scale.
  • API & Backend Test Automation
  • Build comprehensive API test suites to validate service contracts, workflows, and edge cases across our distributed backend architecture.
  • Contribute to integration testing strategies for inter-service validation and shared dependencies.
  • Frontend & E2E Automation
  • Partner with product engineers to define and automate critical user journeys and regression tests using Playwright.
  • Help bridge frontend and backend test coverage through unified test frameworks and shared data models.
  • AI-Driven Test Engineering
  • Evaluate and implement AI-powered tools to generate, optimize, and maintain automated tests (e.g., using LLMs like GPT or fine-tuned internal models).
  • Build tooling that translates test cases, acceptance criteria, or product specs into executable code through AI-based prompt engineering.
  • Integrate self-healing, intelligent failure analysis, and test recommendation systems into CI pipelines.
  • Culture of Quality
  • Collaborate with developers, QEs, and platform engineers to shift testing left, define quality gates, and improve build-check effectiveness.
  • Contribute to internal best practices around test strategy, observability, data-driven debugging, and release readiness.
  • Mentor others in test architecture, automation best practices, and sustainable quality ownership.

What You Bring
  • Solid experience (5+ years preferred) as an SDET, Test Automation Engineer, or similar role in fast-paced product environments.
  • Expertise in TypeScript and deep experience with test frameworks like Playwright, Jest, Mocha, or custom-built tools.
  • Strong backend understanding with practical experience testing RESTful APIs, message queues, and service-level contracts.
  • Experience with Docker, local environment orchestration, and integrating tests into CI pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, CircleCI).
  • A strong understanding of modern test pyramid principles, including balancing unit, integration, and E2E automation.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in AI-assisted test generation, prompt engineering, or test maintenance using LLMs.
  • Passion for system design, test scalability, and thoughtful failure investigation.

Bonus Skills
  • Experience with GraphQL, gRPC, or event-driven architectures.
  • Built or contributed to internal tools that accelerate QA via AI or automation.
  • Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., DataDog, Sentry) for debugging and quality signals.
  • Exposure to quality analytics and test coverage dashboards (e.g., TestRail, Allure, custom metrics).

Why Join ClickUp?

At ClickUp, quality is a team sport. We build intelligent test systems that adapt and scale as fast as we ship. Our QA vision is shifting from execution to enablement — embedding quality into the developer workflow using intelligent automation, strong engineering practices, and AI-first tools.

If you're looking to shape how modern testing works at scale and want to make a meaningful impact on product velocity and engineering excellence — we’d love to hear from you.
