Senior Pricing / Underwriting Analyst

at Collective Health

San Francisco, United States

At Collective Health, we’re transforming how employers and their people engage with their health benefits by seamlessly integrating cutting-edge technology, compassionate service, and world-class user experience design.

We are seeking a highly analytical and strategic Senior Pricing & Underwriting Analyst to join our team. In this critical role, you will spearhead the development of our pricing models for self-funded clients while acting as a catalyst for change across the organization. The ideal candidate is a data-driven problem-solver with a deep intellectual curiosity, who is passionate about asking 'why' to uncover inefficiencies and build scalable processes from the ground up. As a trusted partner to Sales, Client Success, and Senior Leadership, you will provide the critical insights that drive our growth and profitability, all while thriving in a forward-thinking environment where we are leveraging analytics to revolutionize our approach to pricing and risk assessment.

What You'll Do:

Pricing & Financial Analysis

  • Spearhead the development and execution of administrative pricing models for prospective and existing self-funded clients.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of large datasets to identify key cost drivers, trends, and opportunities for both global and client-specific pricing strategies.
  • Develop and maintain sophisticated financial models, including customer and product P&Ls and unit economics, to generate critical insights and drive cost allocation efficiency.
  • Design and manage recurring financial reporting, including performance dashboards, monthly metrics, and Board-level materials.

Process Improvement & Scalability

  • Proactively identify, recommend, and implement enhancements to underwriting workflows, tools, and processes to drive efficiency and improve accuracy.
  • Champion projects aimed at improving data quality, developing new analytical tools, or refining pricing models to enhance our scalability.
  • Explore and apply emerging technologies, including AI concepts, to enhance predictive accuracy and automate complex analytical tasks.
  • Analyze and map the end-to-end underwriting lifecycle to identify key areas for improvement, cost savings, and operational excellence.

Strategic Partnership & Communication

  • Serve as a trusted financial partner to the Sales and Client Success teams, providing analytical support and strategic guidance on pricing decisions.
  • Advise senior leaders during monthly, quarterly, and annual planning processes, presenting complex financial information in a clear and actionable manner.
  • Collaborate across the organization to ensure pricing strategies are competitive, profitable, and aligned with company goals.

To Be Successful In This Role, You'll Need:

  • A strong sense of curiosity and a relentless drive to challenge the status quo by finding a 'better way' to solve problems.
  • 5+ years of experience in a data-centric role within the healthcare industry (e.g., underwriting, medical economics, or financial analysis).
  • Proven experience in pricing strategy, including analyzing market competitiveness, preparing revenue forecasts, and modeling the financial impact of various approaches.
  • A demonstrated track record of identifying operational bottlenecks and successfully implementing process improvements to drive efficiency.
  • Familiarity with or a strong interest in applying AI, machine learning, or other advanced analytical techniques to solve business problems is a significant plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to distill complex quantitative analysis into simple, actionable recommendations for audiences at all levels, including senior leadership.
  • Strong business acumen, with experience working cross-functionally with Sales and Account Management teams to achieve shared objectives.
  • Experience supporting large-scale, collaborative planning processes.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets for complex financial modeling and data analysis.
  • Technical proficiency with Google Workspace applications (Docs, Slides).
