Where we work

Udemy is a global company headquartered in San Francisco, with additional U.S. offices in Denver and Austin, and international hubs in Australia, India, Ireland, Mexico, and Türkiye. This is an in-office position, requiring three days a week in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and flexibility on Mondays and Fridays.

About your skills 

  • Extensive knowledge of cloud technologies. AWS is a particular advantage.
  • Experience managing containerised workloads.
  • Experience with programming languages to include python. GoLang and Kotlin are an added advantage.
  • Scope: You see beyond the scope of your immediate team, understand the challenges of the engineering organization and find opportunities to collaborate across teams to help address these challenges.
  • Influencing: You develop relationships effectively up, down, and across the organization and are able to strategically use these relationships to help move your work forward. You scope  a solution that will  “get to yes” and also are capable of pushing back on disagreement if they will not provide the outcome needed for the team or the business. 
  • Decision Making: You use critical thinking to follow a defined decision making process and consider multiple perspectives. Upon making a decision, you are clear in your communication and ensure everyone is aligned in execution.
  • Coaching: You have strong coaching skills that allow you to actively listen and ask the kind of questions that will help you diagnose and effectively address issues. 

About this role 

  • At Udemy the SRE team manage infrastructure from our CDN right back as far as Datastores. In between, we own load balancers, kubernetes clusters and CI/CD.
  • We manage our infrastructure using terraform and control access to that infrastructure using Teleport.
  • We build microservices to accommodate the needs of our internal customers. These are written in Kotlin.

What you’ll be doing 

  • You’ll manage a team of 7 split between Ireland and the U.S.
  • You’ll work with directors, principal engineers and architects to develop a sustainable roadmap that addresses the needs of our internal and external customers, as well as the team itself.
  • Upskilling and coaching the team and working on career development.

What you’ll have 

  • At least 3 years managing infrastructure-focused teams.
  • Experience managing Kubernetes clusters.
  • Good communication skills and an ability to both share and receive feedback in a responsible manner.
