Faire

Senior Frontend Engineer

at Faire

Kitchener-Waterloo, Toronto, Canada

About Faire

Faire is an online wholesale marketplace built on the belief that the future is local — independent retailers around the globe are doing more revenue than Walmart and Amazon combined, but individually, they are small compared to these massive entities. At Faire, we're using the power of tech, data, and machine learning to connect this thriving community of entrepreneurs across the globe. Picture your favorite boutique in town — we help them discover the best products from around the world to sell in their stores. With the right tools and insights, we believe that we can level the playing field so that small businesses everywhere can compete with these big box and e-commerce giants.

By supporting the growth of independent businesses, Faire is driving positive economic impact in local communities, globally. We’re looking for smart, resourceful and passionate people to join us as we power the shop local movement. If you believe in community, come join ours.

About this role:

Faire’s Relationship Growth team is building the toolkit that empowers brands to create, nurture, and expand high-value relationships with retailers on Faire. We design intuitive, data-driven experiences that help brands communicate effectively, strengthen long-term partnerships, and unlock sustainable revenue growth across the marketplace.

As a Senior Frontend Engineer (L4), you’ll bring strong engineering judgment, high ownership, and a bias toward action to an evolving product surface. You’ll lead the design and implementation of scalable user interfaces while setting a high bar for code quality and user experience. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional partners, influence technical direction, and help establish patterns that enable the team to move quickly while maintaining long-term health and maintainability.

This role offers a unique opportunity to shape both the product and technical direction of a fast-evolving surface that sits at the heart of how brands grow on Faire.

What you’ll do:

  • Product & systems discovery: Deeply understand brand and retailer communication needs; translate ambiguous requirements into clear functional specs, UX flows, and front-end system designs that support fast-paced experimentation.
  • Experimentation & rapid prototyping: Build polished, experiment-ready features that validate new ideas quickly. Drive iterative proofs of concept, instrument experiments, and use data and user insights to refine solutions and guide product direction.
  • End-to-end feature ownership: Own complex features from concept through launch, making key architectural decisions, unblocking ambiguity, and delivering high-quality interfaces that support fast-paced iteration
  • Front-end architecture & extensibility: Shape the foundational architecture of the UI connecting brands and retailers. Define flexible component patterns, data flows, and integration boundaries that make it easy for the team to ship fast while still setting up for long-term scale.
  • Cross-functional partnership: Collaborate closely with back-end engineers, product, design, and data science to create shared understanding, align on priorities, and make informed trade-offs. Communicate technical decisions clearly and help shape product strategy through a strong engineering perspective.
  • Mentorship & technical leadership: Mentor engineers on front-end best practices, experimentation strategy, and system design. Contribute to decisions that guide the future of brand–retailer communication at Faire.
  • Quality & reliability: Develop robust testing approaches (unit, integration, and e2e), instrumentation, and release checks that support rapid iteration without sacrificing correctness. Drive improvements based on performance metrics and user feedback.
  • Operational excellence: Monitor feature launches, investigate issues, perform root-cause analysis, and propose long-term fixes. Maintain documentation that helps the broader team build confidently on top of the toolkit.
  • Strategic impact: Influence the roadmap by evaluating feasibility, shaping multi-quarter technical direction, and identifying opportunities that support upcoming objectives—such as maximizing toolkit adoption, improving message effectiveness, and preparing for future monetization.

We’re excited about you because you have:

  • 5+ years of professional front-end engineering experience
  • Proven ability to independently lead technical projects end-to-end
  • Strong product intuition and experimentation mindset
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience

Technologies we use and teach:

  • HTML, CSS, TypeScript
  • React, Next.js, TanStack Query, Tailwind CSS
  • Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright
  • REST and streaming APIs (collaboration with Kotlin-based backend services)
