Senior Director, Engineering

MongoDB is growing and gaining adoption rapidly across the globe with the most demanding and innovative companies and development teams in enterprise software.

We are seeking a Senior Director, Engineering to join our growing Gurugram Product & Technology team where you will drive the technical vision, execution, and implement core parts of a new platform we are building to make it easier for customers to build AI applications using MongoDB. 

We are looking to speak to candidates who are based in Gurugram for our hybrid working model.

Position Expectations 

• Lead and Manage the Engineering Team – Oversee engineering efforts to design, develop, and scale the new product, ensuring high performance, reliability, and efficiency
• Recruit and Build a High-Performance Team – Attract, hire, and mentor top-tier engineering talent, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence
• Define Product and Engineering Strategy – Collaborate with product, research, and engineering leaders to define the long-term vision, roadmap, and architecture of the new platform
• Ensure Operational Excellence – Drive best practices for monitoring, reliability, and performance in production
• Lead Architecture: Own the architectural vision for the platform, working with Senior engineers on the team, ensuring it runs equally well on public clouds, private cloud environments and on-premise

Cross-functional leadership - Work with product managers, program managers, design & analytics teams and other teams to define, prioritize and deliver new features that delight our users and drive platform improvementsRemove roadblocks - Enable the team to operate efficiently by removing technical obstacles, coordinating with other teams on dependencies, and prioritizing the team's overall well-being

Qualifications

• 15+ years of engineering leadership experience, including managing multiple teams and scaling large, distributed systems
• Proven experience building and maintaining high scale serving platforms in production
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, large-scale data processing, and systems infrastructure
• Experience working with cloud-native architectures and platforms like AWS, GCP, Azure, and Kubernetes
• Excellent leadership, strategic thinking, and ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders
• Strong technical background in Python, C++, Java, or Go. Experience with AI and Machine Learning frameworks and SDKs is a plus
• Experience in hiring, mentoring, and scaling world-class engineering teams

Success Measures

• In the first month, you’ll have understood the surface area, the high level architecture of the new platform. You’ll have initiated one-on-ones with your team members
• By the second month, you will be deeply embedded in the recruiting and hiring process for growing the Product and Technology team in India and begun filtering resumes and interviewing candidates
• In three months, you’ll have fully on-boarded onto the team and contributed to the design of a core platform capability
• In six months, you will have taken on full responsibility for projects slated for the subsequent quarter. You’ll have started growth conversations with your team members and begun to understand their longer-term career aspirations
• In twelve months, you’ll have led the development of multiple new features and performed a full annual cycle of performance and growth conversations with your team members Additionally, you’ll have contributed to the vision for the future of the platform and helped develop a plan to achieve that vision
