The Rider Core Experience team is responsible for the Lyft Rider App, spanning the full consumer journey from request and purchase to pickup, in-trip experience, drop-off, and time between rides. As a Senior Data Scientist in the team, you will leverage data and rigorous, analytical thinking to shape the golden path on the Lyft rider app and make business decisions that put our customers first. You will be leading and bringing a quantitative mindset to decision-making in partnership with product, design, engineering, business, and operations stakeholders throughout the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Design and analyze experiments to optimize service excellence across offerings — measuring reliability, growth, and rider retention.
- Build models and reporting frameworks that explain rider choice, conversion, and retention across different ride modes and product offerings.
- Establish metrics that measure the health of Lyft rideshare offerings and rider experience. Partner with product managers, engineers, marketers, designers, and operators to translate data insights into decisions and actions
- Develop insights that inform product strategies and global market adaptation.
- Contribute to Lyft’s experimentation and observability frameworks to ensure scientific rigor and actionable results.
- Communicate results and insights to senior leadership with clarity and strategic framing.
Experience:
- MS/PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, or related quantitative field.
- 5+ years of experience in data science, applied machine learning, or a similar role in a consumer-facing tech product.
- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL; experience with large-scale data systems (Spark, Trino, Hadoop, etc.).
- Strong foundation in causal inference, experimentation design, and applied statistics.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; able to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Growth mindset and ability to thrive in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment.
- Familiarity with marketplace dynamics or have prior experience in two-sided platforms.

The expected base pay range for this position in the San Francisco area is $148,000 - $185,000. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
