The Opportunity
Okta is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our Enterprise Data Platform team. Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Enterprise Data Platform, you will be a key hands-on contributor responsible for building the data platform that supports our internal AI use cases with AI-ready data. You will help turn the data product vision into a secure, scalable, and elegant technical reality by developing and implementing core components of our data infrastructure.
This role requires a skilled engineer who is passionate about building high-quality data solutions. You will contribute to the team’s standards for engineering excellence and help ensure our core data platform is trusted and ready to power AI-powered decision-making at Okta.
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain performant data pipelines and data models on the company's AI data platform, using Snowflake, AWS, and dbt.
- Implement components of our security and governance framework to ensure high-compliance and security standards are met.
- Develop automated solutions for data classification, access control, and contribute to our vulnerability management processes.
- Use infrastructure as code (Terraform) and CI/CD (GitHub/GitLab) to build, test, and deploy data infrastructure securely and reliably.
- Adhere to and champion best practices in code quality, system design, and operational readiness.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, senior engineers, and analytics teams to deliver high-quality data solutions that meet business needs.
What You Bring
- Experience: 5+ years of data engineering experience, with a focus on building data pipelines, data models, and working on data platforms.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong, hands-on experience with cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, or similar) and AWS. Solid understanding of data pipeline and orchestration tools like dbt, Airflow, or Fivetran, and IaC with Terraform.
- Security & Governance Mindset: Experience implementing security controls, and a good understanding of data governance principles within a modern data stack.
- Collaborative Spirit: A proven track record of working effectively in a team environment with product managers, analysts, and other engineers to deliver features.
- Problem Solver: Ability to tackle well-defined technical problems and deliver high-quality, maintainable engineering solutions.
