Risk Operations Analyst, EMEA Payments (FTC)
at Airbnb
Luxembourg
Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.
The Community You Will Join:
To power the global Airbnb community, we are building a world-class payments platform - one that currently supports 191 countries, 70 currencies, connects dozens of payment providers and banks, and processes billions of dollars per year for all of Airbnb’s business units. As the platform grows, we’ll be adding new payment partners, establishing licensed payments companies around the world, and building innovative payment experiences and financial products for our guests and hosts. Our goal? To create a future where transparent, simple, and familiar payment solutions can empower people, entrepreneurs and communities on our global marketplace.
The Difference You will Make:
At Airbnb Payments Luxembourg S.A. (APL), we are currently looking for a Risk Operations Analyst on a fixed term contract to help implement a new risk management framework including migration of key components of the register and reporting tools to new SaaS applications. Joining APL means joining a globally recognized brand with a culture of innovation and learning — where you’ll gain hands-on experience in the inner workings of a regulated financial institution and contribute directly to the digital transformation of risk management operations. The position will be based in Luxembourg and report directly to an Authorised Manager and Board Member of the company. This is a remote first company but the successful candidate will be expected to come to the office multiple (at least 2) times per week.
A Typical Day:
- Participate in the development of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework, supporting the integration of key risk and control components.
- Migrate existing ERM components to a SaaS application like Airtable, designing and configuring data structures, workflows, and dashboards.
- Develop automation for controls execution, using low-code or scripting tools to streamline risk monitoring and reporting.
- Leverage Generative AI tools to assist in documentation, control execution, and data summarization.
- Build reporting and visualization capabilities, including automated risk and control dashboards for management and regulatory use.
- Collaborate closely with the global Risk, Compliance, and Technology teams to align on process standards and digitalization initiatives.
Your Expertise:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Finance, or a related field.
- Basic scripting or automation experience (e.g., Python, JavaScript, or similar). Knowledge of the language is not mandatory but ability to implement logic using scripting tools and using GenAI tools is essential.
- Digital native — strong ability to quickly learn and use new SaaS tools (e.g., Airtable, Power Automate, Zapier, etc.).
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple workstreams independently.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with comfort working in a globally distributed and cross-functional environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) functions within a regulated financial entity.
- Working knowledge of key regulatory frameworks covering Governance such as DORA (Digital Operational Resilience Act), EBA Outsourcing Guidelines, or CSSF circulars applicable to payment institutions.
- Prior experience working in a financial institution in Europe, particularly in risk, compliance, or operations.
- Comfortable working in matrix/functional organisations.
- Exposure to data analytics or low-code automation platforms is an advantage.
- Strong project management skills.
- Strong communication skills in English.
- Exposure to senior leaders and regulators.
