What you’ll do
As the Resource Planning Manager for Professional Services, you will own the end-to-end lifecycle of resource allocation and capacity forecasting to ensure delivery excellence. You will act as a strategic partner to business leads, aligning headcount, skills, and timing to project demand. You will translate high-level sales and pipeline forecasts into executable staffing plans, optimize utilization, and drive continuous improvement in resource processes and tooling.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Resource Allocation: Manage the assignment of consultants and technical staff to projects based on skill sets, availability, and professional development goals, ensuring optimal project-person fit.
- Capacity Planning & Forecasting: Partner with Sales and Leadership teams to analyze the sales pipeline and forecast future demand. Identify upcoming resource gaps and provide data-driven recommendations for hiring or upskilling.
- Utilization Management: Monitor and report on billable utilization and workload balance. Proactively identify "at-risk" employees (under or over-utilized) and implement mitigation strategies to prevent burnout or revenue leakage.
- Governance & Process Ownership: Maintain a centralized resource management system (PSA/CRM). Establish and enforce standardized workflows for resource requests, extensions, and conflict resolution.
- Conflict Resolution: Act as the primary point of contact for resource conflicts, negotiating between stakeholders to prioritize projects based on business value, client urgency, and strategic importance.
- Skills Matrix Management: Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of team skills, certifications, and experience levels to ensure your business practice remains agile and capable of meeting evolving market needs.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Finance to align resourcing data with revenue recognition and project budgets. Collaborate with HR/Recruiting to define headcount needs based on long-term capacity trends.
- Operational Excellence: Continuously refine resource management tools and processes to increase visibility and reduce manual overhead.
