At SoFi, we’re on a mission to help our members get their money right, and become a Top 10 Financial institution. Beyond that, we aim to become the “AWS of Banking”, building the platforms that power the Financial Services industry and we’re starting with core banking.
We’re looking for a Principal Product Manager, Treasury and Financial Platform to lead the product vision, roadmap, and execution of the financial platform infrastructure that powers the company’s accounting, treasury, and ledger systems. Your mission is to build the foundational plumbing that enables consistent, scalable, and auditable financial flows across all business units (e.g. payments, billing, risk, forecasts). You’ll work closely with engineering, finance, accounting, risk & compliance, and product teams to define and deliver core capabilities such as general ledger schemas, transaction models, reconciliation, reporting, and internal APIs.
Key Responsibilities
- Define a long-term product vision and roadmap for the financial / treasury platform: ledger, subledger, reconciliation, cash flows, intercompany, currency conversion, etc.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners (finance, accounting, compliance, tax, risk, ops) to elicit requirements, surface pain points, and align on trade-offs.
- Identify and drive near-term opportunities to abstract General Ledgers, accounting and settlement functions from legacy mainframe systems to a cloud-based architecture while automating existing reconciliation processes and improving efficiency
- Serve as the “voice of the internal customer” (other product teams, business units) — deeply understand their needs for financial data, consistency, and extensibility.
- Specify product features (user stories, API contracts, schemas, workflows) and drive technical design tradeoffs with engineering.
- Lead the end-to-end delivery lifecycle: from discovery, prototyping, through development, QA, and rollout.
- Define success metrics (e.g. data consistency incidents, reconciliation gap, latency, adoption of new ledger versions, internal developer velocity).
- Manage backward compatibility, migrations, and versioning strategies for ledger / schema changes.
- Ensure high reliability, scalability, and auditability of financial platform components.
- Balance incremental improvements with strategic infrastructure investments (e.g. modular architecture, event sourcing, real-time pipelines).
- Drive internal enablement: documentation, SDKs, onboarding, change management for platform consumers.
- Monitor and mitigate risks: data integrity issues, version mismatches, compliance, regulatory changes.
- Validate assumptions via pilots or internal experiments before large-scale rollouts.
- Engage with leadership and stakeholders to communicate roadmap, tradeoffs, and status.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree or higher, ideally in a technical, finance, or quantitative field.
- 8+ years of product management experience, ideally with consumer fintech, personal finance, or intelligent assistant products.
- Deep domain knowledge or exposure to accounting, general ledger, subledger, cash management, reconciliation processes. Able to partner credibly with Treasury, Finance, and Accounting stakeholders to define outcomes, ideally with exposure to CFA-level concepts
- Significant experience and deep understanding of financial infrastructure, ERP environments, banking general ledgers, accounting systems, financial reconciliation, and money movement systems such as ACH and Wire
- Experience with multi-currency, intercompany accounting, tax, or foreign exchange
- Experience managing large-scale migrations or re-platforming efforts
- High degree of ownership and a strong bias for action in driving initiatives to completion
- Uses data to proactively identify and validate problems and focus on needle-moving solutions
- Passionately advocates for the end user experience, deeply understands their needs and pain points, and designs solutions that prioritize their satisfaction and trust.
- Not afraid to dive into the details and perform hands-on tasks as needed. Combines strategic thinking with practical execution.
- Exceptional collaboration skills with a proven ability to influence cross-functional teams, build consensus, and foster strong working relationships with stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of effectively presenting complex information to various audiences, including executive leadership.
- Proven ability to develop and execute comprehensive long-term strategies, understanding complex systems, and navigating regulatory landscapes to achieve business objectives.
