You will also act as a payments subject matter expert within the Japan office.
This role requires a broad skill set, including stakeholder engagement, coordination of operational and financial performance, deep knowledge of payment products, business development, project management, and go-to-market strategy. You will play a key role in accelerating Adyen’s growth in Japan. This is a full-time position based in our Tokyo office.
What you'll do
- Act as the primary point of contact for payment partners, taking full ownership both internally and externally. Manage all aspects of each partnership, including prioritisation of focus areas, evaluation of new initiatives, and ongoing partner management
- Define and execute a comprehensive, proactive partnership strategy for a portfolio of critical payment partners
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (Product, Data, Compliance, Engineering, Scheme Operations, Risk, Account Management, etc.) to improve performance across core payment processes
- Elevate Adyen’s positioning by identifying business development opportunities, driving co-marketing initiatives, and facilitating joint product development
- Enable knowledge sharing across the organisation by ensuring teams fully leverage the technical and commercial aspects of the Adyen products you manage
- Negotiate preferential commercial and operational terms with payment partners on behalf of Adyen and its merchants
- Manage day-to-day operational activities, including partner applications and related processes
Who you are
- An experienced payments professional with 4+ years of experience at Japanese payments companies or financial institutions (e.g. card networks, fintechs, acquirers, PSPs)
- A collaborative team player who can build and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders across functions and seniority levels
- Comfortable working in a global, multicultural environment
- A critical thinker who makes data-driven decisions, sets clear goals, and drives outcomes, while maintaining a hands-on approach
- Strong understanding of payment products, with the ability to support Product teams in informed decision-making
- Capable of leading and coordinating escalations involving business-critical processes
- A quick and enthusiastic learner who takes a “launch fast and iterate” approach to problem-solving
- A self-starter who can operate independently and take ownership
- Native or fluent Japanese, with business-level English proficiency
