The HR Generalist is an instrumental role in Airbnb’s Employee Experience (EX) delivery model and is uniquely positioned to deliver concrete solutions and services to Airbnb’s workforce across the Americas. This role is responsible for ensuring Airbnb HR services are delivered timely, accurately and with high quality across the entire employee journey.
The Difference You Will Make
You’ll play a pivotal role in delivering core HR services. You will advise managers and employees on people matters, support the planning and execution of cyclical talent programs, and collaborate with EX Centers of Expertise (COEs) and functional experts on global program delivery, research, and investigations. While your primary focus will be HR services and management in Latin America, this role also involves cross-functional and cross-regional partnership to ensure cohesive business outcomes across Airbnb. This position is highly cross-functional and requires strong engagement with teams across the business, EX/HR, and global/regional groups.
A Typical Day
You’ll balance both regional and functional responsibilities in this role.
Latin America Regional Responsibilities
- Act as the primary HR contact for all Latin America functions, providing compliance expertise and generalist support
- Oversee HR administration for the region, including statutory filings, and regularly update employee handbooks and policies for local compliance
- Proactively assess regional needs and collaborate with stakeholders to address and resolve them effectively
- Represent the EX function in regional forums, all-hands meetings, and new hire sessions
- Partner with EX Operations and cross-functional teams to manage logistics for hiring, onboarding, exits, and contingent workforce guidance across Latin America
- Identify HR services that can be transitioned to EX Operations and coordinate the shift smoothly
- Drive solutions in partnership with Legal, Finance, Compensation & Benefits, Payroll, Recruiting, and Workplace teams
- Serve as project manager for HR services across Latin America, ensuring alignment with business and regional strategies, especially in Brazil and Mexico
- Collaborate with COEs to plan and support cyclical programs like performance management, compensation reviews, talent reviews, and employee listening, sharing feedback for continuous improvement
- Promote EX self-service support and enable managers and employees to resolve inquiries independently where possible
- Address Employee Relations cases, analyzing issues and implementing solutions in collaboration with HR/EX partners and other experts
- Advise and coach managers and employees, supporting skill development and escalating issues to Employee Relations and Legal as needed
- Work with key functional teams to deliver an excellent client experience and ensure compliance with employment regulations and clarity on compensation and benefits
- Monitor legislative changes, updating policies and practices as necessary
- Foster Airbnb’s Core Values and Diversity & Belonging initiatives across the region
- Maintain accurate HR data in Workday and related systems
Business Functional Responsibilities
- Partner with Business HRBP/Talent teams to support the Employee Experience/People strategy for defined business units
- Serve as the main HR contact for business teams in Latin America, determining the best approach to resolve people matters
- Develop a strong understanding of the business, managed markets, and strategic roadmaps in the region
- Align responsibilities with regional business strategy and design people programs that enable business outcomes
- Collaborate on function-specific projects, some of which may extend beyond Latin America
- Analyze data and report insights to identify trends, inform planning, and mitigate potential issues
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to manage business and organizational performance
Your Expertise
Professional Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience in core HR disciplines: HR Operations, Compensation, Benefits, Recruiting, Employee Relations, Talent Management, Organization Design, and Change Management
- Strong business acumen and understanding of how HR supports Airbnb’s company roadmap and goals
- In-depth knowledge of Latin American employment laws, especially in Brazil and Mexico, and experience with US client groups
- Previous work with Brazilian and Mexican regulatory agencies and participation in audits is highly valued
- Ability to balance strategic vision with attention to detail, thriving in both high-level and hands-on work
- Proven problem-solving and investigative skills, with a track record of resolving sensitive employee issues effectively
- Exceptional judgment, analytical, and decision-making abilities
- Skilled in using data to influence business decisions, including headcount planning, attrition analytics, and employee survey results
- Experience guiding and influencing managers and leaders, with strong communication and relationship-building skills in Portuguese, Spanish, and English
- Adept at aligning teams towards shared goals and outcomes
- Self-directed, highly collaborative, and effective at working across teams, functions, and regions
- Curious, creative, and passionate about solving complex challenges
Education, Work Experience, and Extras
- 8+ years of progressive HR experience in fast-paced, global companies
- Deep expertise in at least two HR functional areas (e.g., HRBP, Compensation, Recruiting, Employee Relations, Talent Management)
- BA/BS in an HR-related field required; MA/MS preferred, with specialization in areas like Organizational Behavior, Development, Employment Law, Compensation, Statistics, or Business
- Full fluency in Portuguese, Spanish, and English
- Expertise in Brazilian and Mexican labor laws and regulations
- Experience managing HR projects in multiple LATAM countries, especially Brazil and Mexico
- Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Ability to manage competing demands and adapt quickly in a dynamic environment
- Proficient with Google Suite for HR data analysis and visualization; experience with Workday and Tableau preferred
- Passionate about travel and the travel industry
- Willingness to travel to Mexico City 2-3 times per year and San Francisco annually
- Strong commitment to delivering excellent customer experiences (internal and external)
- Enjoys meaningful work and building relationships with business clients and colleagues
Your Location:
This position is based in São Paulo, Brazil - Hybrid. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager.
