The role:
SoFi is seeking experienced Underwriters to review and decision home equity and mortgage loan applications. This role requires sound judgment, strong analytical ability, and a deep understanding of credit risk, collateral evaluation, and program guidelines. You’ll work closely with processors to ensure each file is complete, accurate, and ready for closing — while maintaining a positive, collaborative work environment.
What you’ll do:
- Review loan applications, credit reports, appraisals, income, and other supporting documentation to determine risk and eligibility within program guidelines.
- Evaluate and clear stipulations and conditions promptly to maintain file momentum.
- Analyze complex loan packages to render accurate, defensible credit decisions.
- Ensure quality and compliance with company, investor, and GSE standards while meeting production targets.
- Communicate clearly with loan originators and processors to obtain any missing or clarifying documentation.
- Interpret and apply Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and investor-specific guidelines.
- Identify potential fraud indicators and escalate as appropriate.
What you’ll need:
- Minimum 2 years of conventional loan underwriting experience.
- Strong credit, risk analysis, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with DU and LP.
- Experience analyzing self-employment income (Schedule C, K-1, corporate returns).
- Experience reviewing full appraisals and title reports.
- Thorough knowledge of credit policy, underwriting guidelines, and property evaluation.
Ability to review loan documentation for accuracy and completeness. - Excellent communication and collaboration skills; able to partner effectively with processors and production staff.
- Hybrid role with in-office collaboration in Charlotte, NC (approximately 1–2 days per week).
Nice to have:
- Home equity or manual underwriting experience.
- Active CHUMS #, SAR, or VA credit authority.
