Head of Communications
at Nuro
California (HQ), Mountain View, United States
Who We Are
Nuro believes self-driving vehicles are the most immediate and profound opportunity for AI to drive positive change in the physical world. Safer streets, more time for what matters, and easier access to the world around us—that’s why we’re building a universal autonomy platform: self-driving for all roads and all rides.
Founded in 2016, Nuro is a physical AI company developing Level 4 autonomous driving technology for a wide range of vehicles, use cases, and markets. Powered by the Nuro Driver™, our universal autonomy platform enables the global mobility ecosystem to deploy autonomy at scale—from robotaxis and logistics fleets to personal vehicles.
With years of real-world deployment experience and a flexible, partner-led business model, Nuro is working toward a future where millions of autonomous vehicles powered by our technology help make everyday life safer, easier, and more connected.
Nuro has raised over $2B in capital from Uber, NVIDIA, Google, Softbank, Fidelity, T. Rowe Price, and other leading investors.
About the Role
Nuro is seeking a Head of Communications to lead our external communications strategy. This person will shape how Nuro shows up with media, customers, partners, policymakers, industry stakeholders, and the broader technology, mobility, automotive, AI, and robotics ecosystems.
This is a high-impact role for a communications leader who is both strategic and detail oriented. You will develop differentiated narratives, lead media strategy, drive technical storytelling, manage major announcements, oversee issues and rapid response, and prepare executives for high-stakes external moments.
The right candidate is an exceptional writer, communicator, operator, and advisor. You know what makes news, how to build trust with reporters, how to coach executives, and how to align senior stakeholders around clear, disciplined messaging. You can translate complex autonomy, AI, robotics, safety, and commercialization concepts into narratives that are accurate and compelling. You are organized, proactive, calm under pressure, and able to protect and propel Nuro’s brand in a fast-moving environment.
This role reports to Nuro’s Director of Brand Marketing & Communications.

- Prepare and coach executives and spokespeople for interviews, panels, speaking opportunities, and other external engagements.
- Lead issues management, crisis communications, and rapid response to industry shifts, reputational risks, and sensitive situations.
- Partner closely with Engineering, Product, Safety, Operations, Policy, Finance, Business Development, and Content to ensure communications are accurate, aligned, and strategically useful.
- Create structure across complex communications workstreams, including messaging, timelines, approvals, stakeholder inputs, risks, and deliverables.
- Manage external PR partners and hold them accountable for strong strategy, execution, follow-through, and results.
- Use AI tools thoughtfully to improve research, drafting, synthesis, planning, and workflow efficiency while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and strong editorial judgment.
About You
- Have 10+ years of communications experience, ideally in an AI, automotive, or high-growth technology environment.
- Are an outstanding writer and editor with a high bar for clarity, accuracy, tone, and narrative strength.
- Have strong media fluency and judgement, with relationships across technology, automotive, business, policy, or industry press.
- Know what makes news and can shape strong story angles from technical, commercial, and market developments.
- Can quickly understand complex technical concepts and translate them for both expert and non-expert audiences.
