Every engineering team at Lyft is responsible for running and operating the software that they build. The Infrastructure team works towards standardizing and supporting all the rapidly evolving teams throughout our organization, assessing their architecture, helping them design scalable services, and fostering excellent operational practices. It's a mission-critical role of ensuring that our systems are always healthy, monitored, automated, and designed to scale.
LUS (Lyft Urban Solutions) engineering team in Montreal is looking for engineering managers to help us scale. Our engineers are smart, flexible, and capable of solving difficult challenges. They look to their managers for organizational transparency, career development, mentorship, and honest feedback. They move fast and ship code to production continuously, relying on their leadership to increase productivity by removing obstacles and keeping processes lean. Our engineering managers are people with varying technical backgrounds and interests, they provide general technical direction for our teams. Together, we build teams that are inclusive, helpful, and have a strong sense of ownership for the things we create. More specifically, Infrastructure Engineering Managers focus on our engineering and production systems, the platforms and tools our engineers use and ensure the reliability of our systems.
Responsibilities:
- Manage, mentor and lead a technical team as well as work on personal and technical development of its team members
- Structure and staff the team, aiming to provide growth opportunities to team members and achieve business goals in parallel
- Work with your engineers and dependent stakeholders to maintain a prioritized backlog and create short-term and long-term goals
- Guide the team to deliver high-quality products and solutions by following best practices
- Instill a spirit of continuous improvement in the team’s code, architecture, and processes
- Provide continuous feedback, address underperformance, and recognize the individual strengths and contributions of your team members
- Build teams that are collaborative, inclusive, and respectful of each other
- Work closely with the Lyft recruiting team to hire high potential candidates from diverse backgrounds
Experience:
- You are fluent in English and French, written and spoken
- 7+ years technical experience in infrastructure technologies and can contribute to planning and design discussions and drive technical decisions
- 3+ years experience managing a team, guiding them through their career development
- You have experience guiding teams through planning, prioritization, and execution of work
- Familiarity with the following paradigms: Platform Engineering (ideal), Site Reliability Engineering (required)
- Solid experience in one of the major cloud providers: AWS (ideal), GCP, Azure
- Experience supporting environments subject to compliance/security/privacy requirements (PCI, SOC2, ISO27001) a plus
- Experience guiding teams through major technology and organizational transformations, a plus
- Ability to communicate effectively in various forms, e.g. technical documents, discussions, presentations

The expected base pay range for this position in the Montreal area is CAD $140,000 - CAD $175,000, not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location.
