About the role
As an Engineering Manager at Crunchtime, you are responsible for the health and output of one or more engineering teams. This role requires a balance of short-term delivery and long-term investment in people and architecture. We look for leaders who are "system thinkers" - individuals who can navigate technical complexity while maintaining an empathetic approach to team leadership.
To support Crunchtime’s continued scaling, we are adding two new Engineering Manager roles to the organization. These strategic hires will expand our leadership capacity, enabling the formation of a new Crunchtime Suite team and providing the dedicated oversight necessary to accelerate our development roadmap. Our applications are designed to provide a unified, data-driven experience for our global hospitality customers.
What you’ll do as an Engineering Manager:
- Manage 1–2 teams (approx. 4–10 engineers total). You own the full talent lifecycle: hiring, retention, professional development, and performance management.
- Work as a strategic partner to Product Management to balance new feature development with the technical debt and maintenance required to keep the platform stable.
- Lead design reviews, ensure code is scalable, and keep the team focused on simple, pragmatic solutions.
- Use Agile practices to deliver value in small, frequent cycles, maintaining tight feedback loops with customers, product, and quality teams.
- Enforce high standards for TDD, CI/CD, and automation to maximize velocity and maintain confidence in our releases.
- Facilitate discussions to remove blockers and keep the team moving toward sprint goals.
What we’re looking for
- A seasoned player/coach with high EQ who shapes team culture through empathy and can still provide deep technical guidance when needed.
- An experienced engineer who values simplicity and pragmatism, implementing the right technical solution for the current problem without over-engineering.
- A leader who favors giving the team context over exerting control, ensuring everyone understands the "why" so they can own the "how."
- A mentor who has built diverse teams, developed career plans, and knows how to provide the frequent, direct feedback needed to win as a team.
- A natural builder who is passionate about engineering excellence, from code review culture to high test coverage and automation.
Nice to haves
- Demonstrated experience managing engineering teams.
- Demonstrated software engineering experience in a modern tech stack.
- High level of mental focus for technical problem-solving.
- Proficiency with Jira, Slack, and Zoom.
- Background in developing enterprise-grade web products at scale or managing distributed systems.
- Experience with mobile development or hardware integrations (mobile devices/embedded hardware).
- Familiarity with DevOps best practices and experience managing remote or distributed teams.
- A track record of contributing to open-source projects or building great relationships with coworkers in the past.
- An interest in the specific technical and business problems we’re solving in the hospitality industry.
What you’ll get
- Great mission-driven team members from diverse backgrounds with a strong company culture
- Competitive pay
- Flexible PTO
- Paid company holidays
- Yearly team off-sites
- Medical, dental, and vision benefits (FSA, HSA & HRA options)
- Basic & Voluntary Life Insurance
- 401k employer match
