The Role
As the Engineering Manager on the Content Publisher team, you’ll play a critical role in architecting and driving the evolution of one of Pantheon’s newest products. We are delivering high impact by transforming how content creators, managers and developers deliver higher speed to publish with less effort while also delivering new content governance capabilities. You’ll be responsible for guiding engineering excellence, leading cross-functional technical initiatives, and mentoring engineers to deliver scalable, reliable, and high-performing systems that empower Pantheon’s customers across their Web teams.
This is a hands-on leadership role: you’ll own the technical vision for key areas, influence architectural decisions, and set the bar for engineering quality and operational excellence across teams. While you are not expected to be a primary developer, we are looking for candidates who are able to jump into their team’s toughest and most strategic technical challenges, contributing insights, direction, and even code where needed.
What You’ll Do
- Technical Leadership & Architecture: Own the end-to-end architecture and design of core platform components. Make key decisions that ensure scalability, resilience, and maintainability across systems.
- Mentorship & Team Enablement: Coach engineers across teams through code reviews, design discussions, and hands-on pair programming. Drive technical growth and foster a culture of engineering excellence.
- Reliability & Performance Engineering: Champion operational quality — drive root cause analysis, implement performance optimizations, and reduce system toil through automation and observability.
- Code Ownership & Delivery: Contribute production-quality code and review critical paths for quality, security, and performance. Guide teams through complex delivery cycles and long-term roadmap execution.
- Innovation, AI & Technical Strategy: Identify and explore emerging technologies and trends, especially around AI, to accelerate the integration of innovative capabilities in Content Publisher.
- Standards & Best Practices: Establish and enforce engineering best practices in testing, deployment, monitoring, and system design. Help codify reusable patterns and shared libraries.
What You’ll Bring to the Table
- Enthusiasm for the future of the Web, content management, and AI technologies.
- History of inspiring teams as both a people manager and technical lead.
- Proven experience leading engineering initiatives across large, distributed systems and teams.
- Strong full-stack experience with both frontend and backend languages (especially TypeScript and Go), CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.
- Strong knowledge, interest and hands on experience with AI infrastructure and technological trends in the context of website technology and content management systems
- Deep knowledge of cloud-native infrastructure (GCP or AWS, containers, microservices, service discovery, etc.).
- Strong grasp of software architecture principles and the tradeoffs between reliability, scalability, and simplicity.
- A track record of solving complex engineering problems and improving systems over time.
- Ability to work across organizational boundaries and influence technical decisions at all levels.
- Exceptional communication and documentation skills — you’re as comfortable in an RFC as you are in a postmortem.
- Passion for mentoring, knowledge sharing, and building a collaborative engineering culture.
