About the team:
Control systems are critical for our autonomy system. We are looking for a motivated Controls Engineer. In this impactful role, you will collaborate with best-in-class engineers to tackle some of the most exciting challenges in autonomous driving and help advance the future of robotics to improve everyday lives.
Responsibilities:
- Develop robust, reliable and optimized production-level control software in adherence with safety standards (ISO 26262)
- Adapt and evolve our core controls software stack to support new vehicle platforms and capabilities.
- Conduct hands-on vehicle bring up, controls tuning, testing, and debugging for achieving vehicle performance, quality and drivability targets
Requirements
- Knowledge in vehicle dynamics, controls theories, control strategy development and testing
- Passionate about solving real-world challenging autonomous driving problems
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to learn and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-starter and good team player with strong drive and accountability
Must Haves:
- MS in mechanical, mechatronics, electrical, aerospace, robotics, or closely related fields with focus on Controls
- Proven experience implementing classical and modern control methods (e.g., PID, LQR, MPC) and/or Machine Learning for Controls through academic projects or professional work
- Strong Embedded C (preferred) or C++ programming skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
Nice to Haves:
- PhD with demonstrated expertise in the design and application of modern control theory to complex dynamic systems such as autonomous vehicles, drones, or robotic manipulators.
- 2+ years of experience in development of L2+ or higher level automated driving controls software
- Powertrain and/or chassis controls experience
- Proven ability to collaborate within and across teams
- Functional safety experience
At Nuro, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. For this position, the reasonably expected pay range is between $145,830 and $219,000/year for the level at which this job has been scoped. Your base pay will depend on several factors, including your experience, qualifications, education, location, and skills. In the event that you are considered for a different level, a higher or lower pay range would apply. This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus, equity, and a competitive benefits package.
