The CI/CD Engineer is pivotal in transforming our CI/CD landscape to enhance developer efficiency across the organization. You will be part of a team that architects, develops, and operates high-performance CI/CD pipelines that align with our mission to provide an unparalleled development environment, driving innovation and stability for our large-scale applications. This infrastructure engineering team builds and operates developer tooling to ensure the Asana application is of high quality and deployed safely and often. We are responsible for systems which allow hundreds of engineers at Asana to get their changes in front of users the same day as they are completed, and receive immediate feedback when bugs are introduced. The team owns and builds every aspect of our product, from the UI and external APIs down to the backend services.

This role is based in our San Francisco office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams with which you partner. What you’ll achieve:

  • Own every part of the improvements you make, from infrastructure changes through to front end interfaces.
  • Advance your AI tooling experience in your day to day problem solving, decision making and be a force multiplier by integrating into the development lifecycle at Asana. 
  • Design, build, and operate systems which ensure Asana engineers are building and deploying high-quality products.
  • Understand the various workflows of engineers at Asana, and find ways to let them respond to issues more quickly and efficiently.
  • Modernize our development, testing, and deployment tooling, tighten development iteration loops, and polish the experience around frequent cycles in the development lifecycle
  • Solve upcoming scalability problems related to our development environment and build system.
  • Balance standardizing tools and processes across the entire engineering organization with teams using specific tools for their own needs.

About you:

  • 3+ years of professional experience in a CI/CD, Infrastructure or Software Engineering role.
  • Proven experience working with AI tooling and integrations (eg: Claude, Cursor, MCP servers).
  • An understanding of CI/CD concepts and hands-on experience with at least one major CI/CD platform.
  • Strong coding skills (e.g., Typescript, Python, Ruby, Bash, Go) to build custom tools and automation.
  • Experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and infrastructure as code tools like Terraform. 
  • Solid understanding of Docker and container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes.
  • A genuine passion for making other developers' lives better. You should be a proactive problem-solver with excellent communication skills and a customer-centric attitude.
  • You should enjoy working with cross-functional teams and rolling out changes that can impact the entire engineering organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with building internal developer platforms or tools. 
  • Understanding of progressive delivery techniques such as feature flags, blue-green deployments, and canary releases.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog).
  • A portfolio or examples of personal projects focused on developer tooling or automation.
  • Active contributor to open source projects or previous experience with large-scale software development at a leading tech company.

Our comprehensive compensation package plays a big part in how we recognize you for the impact you have on our path to achieving our mission. We believe that compensation should be reflective of the value you create relative to the market value of your role. To ensure pay is fair and not impacted by biases, we're committed to looking at market value which is why we check ourselves and conduct a yearly pay equity audit.

For this role, the estimated base salary range is between $171,000 - $209,000. The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process. The listed range above is a guideline, and the base salary range for this role may be modified.

In addition to base salary, your compensation package may include additional components such as equity, sales incentive pay (for most sales roles), and benefits.
