Chief of Staff, Field Engineering
at Databricks
San Francisco, United States
Chief of Staff, Field Engineering
REQ ID: FEQ226R332
About the Role
We are looking for a dynamic, technically curious and highly organized Chief of Staff to partner with the SVP of Field Engineering, a founder and senior executive leading a 3,000-person global organization at the forefront of a rapidly scaling tech company. This is a unique opportunity to sit at the center of the action—working side by side with a visionary leader, engaging directly with customers, and helping shape the priorities and execution of a world-class engineering organization.
In this role, you’ll gain unparalleled exposure to both the strategic and operational heartbeat of the business. You’ll help drive alignment across the leadership team, ensure key initiatives move forward, and bring insight from customer conversations back into the organization. This is a high-visibility position that will challenge you to operate with both precision and creativity, while offering a launchpad into future leadership opportunities in business operations, strategy, or beyond.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Rhythm: Drive the operating cadence of the Field Engineering organization, including staff meetings, all-hands, QBRs, goal-setting, and leadership offsites.
- Priority Execution: Track key initiatives, ensuring deliverables are clear, deadlines are met, and issues are escalated/resolved quickly.
- Leadership Team Effectiveness: Partner closely with the Field Engineering leadership team to ensure alignment, follow-through, and accountability on organizational goals.
- SVP Leverage: Work with the SVP and EA to ensure the SVP’s time is spent on the most critical and impactful activities; proactively identify and clear obstacles that would otherwise reach the SVP
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Serve as a connective tissue between Field Engineering and other functions (e.g., Product, Sales, People, Finance), ensuring smooth collaboration and information flow.
- Special Projects: Lead ad hoc projects that require structured problem-solving, coordination across teams, and tight execution.
- Strategic Thought Partnership: Serve as a sounding board to the SVP on organizational priorities, helping to synthesize input, test ideas, and shape initiatives.
- Customer Engagement & Follow-Through: Regularly attend customer and partner meetings alongside the SVP and leadership team to stay close to external priorities, ensure commitments are tracked and followed up on, and maintain a strong and credible presence with customers and other external stakeholders.
- Communications & Materials: Draft and coordinate internal communications on behalf of the SVP of Field Engineering and cross-functional partners, as well as create high-quality materials such as board decks, executive presentations, and updates for cross-functional partners.
What We’re Looking For
- 6–10 years of experience in business operations, program management, or chief of staff–type roles in fast-paced, complex organizations.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, drive clarity, and maintain momentum.
- Technical curiosity with a solid understanding of the data and AI space; able to quickly learn and engage with concepts relevant to Databricks’ platform and offerings.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to build trust quickly with senior leaders and keep cross-functional stakeholders aligned.
- High bias for action and problem-solving—comfortable rolling up sleeves and driving outcomes.
- Experience with large, distributed, or customer-facing organizations is a plus.
- Comfort with ambiguity, ability to bring structure, and a track record of getting things done.
Why Join
This is a high-visibility, high-impact role at the center of a large global Field Engineering organization. You’ll work closely with a founder-SVP and a seasoned leadership team, gaining exposure to strategic priorities and operational challenges across the company.
