Automation Maintenance Technician

About the Role

As an Automation Maintenance Technician, you will serve as the on-site technical expert responsible for maintaining and supporting automated equipment and systems within the warehouse. You will execute preventive maintenance, troubleshoot complex issues, and perform repairs to ensure equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably.

In this role, you will partner closely with operations to coordinate maintenance activities, support equipment inspections, and train operators. You’ll play a critical role in minimizing downtime, improving system performance, and driving continuous improvement across automation systems. We’re looking for a hands-on, solutions-oriented technician who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can operate with a high degree of ownership. 

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

• Follow and champion all safety procedures
• Identify, address, and escalate safety risks

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and automated systems
• Troubleshoot using schematics, blueprints, and diagnostic tools
• Support equipment startup and respond to breakdowns with urgency

Automation & Controls

• Use controls software (e.g., Allen-Bradley Studio 5000, Cognex) to diagnose and resolve complex issues
• Navigate PLC systems and apply foundational programming and troubleshooting skills

Preventive Maintenance

• Execute and continuously improve preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs
• Drive reliability improvements and reduce equipment downtime

CMMS & Documentation

• Maintain accurate work orders, repair history, and parts usage in CMMS
• Ensure timely and complete documentation of all maintenance activities

Communication & Collaboration

• Partner with operations and maintenance teams to coordinate work and priorities
• Train operators on equipment use, changeovers, and basic maintenance
• Communicate equipment status, schedules, and issues clearly

Continuous Improvement

• Participate in cross-functional initiatives to improve equipment performance
• Lead or support root cause analysis (e.g., A3) and implement corrective actions

Parts & Vendor Coordination

• Manage spare parts inventory and coordinate ordering to ensure availability
• Work with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs and support

WE’RE EXCITED ABOUT YOU BECAUSE…

• You have 5+ years of experience maintaining and repairing packaging or material handling equipment, along with a 2-year technical degree
• You have 2+ years of experience working with PLCs, VFDs, and vision systems (Cognex preferred)
• You can independently plan, prioritize, and execute work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
• You bring a strong sense of ownership and initiative, proactively identifying and resolving equipment issues
• You are capable of serving as a technical resource on-site, supporting and guiding less experienced team members when needed
• You’re flexible to support operations outside standard hours, including occasional evenings or weekends
• You’re proficient with tools such as Google Workspace or Microsoft Office
• You are reliable, accountable, and follow through on commitments
• You operate with integrity and contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment
