Architect
at Dealpath
San Francisco, United States
Dealpath powers over $10 trillion in real estate transactions for the world's leading institutional investors, including Blackstone, Brookfield, Nuveen, LaSalle, CBRE IM, MetLife, and hundreds more. We're in an accelerating growth phase, and we're exceptionally well positioned for an exciting next chapter.
This is a greenfield opportunity to define Dealpath's architectural future rather than inherit someone else's decisions. You'll report directly to the CTO and partner with the VP of Engineering and Engineering Managers to set the technical direction for a platform purpose-built for real estate investing.
The Architect we're looking for will shape how we build, establish AI-native development practices across the engineering org, and lead a team focused on scalability, platform modernization, and engineering excellence. If you're energized by solving real business problems and helping build an industry-defining product, we'd love to meet you.
What You’ll Do
Architecture & Platform Strategy
- Define and evolve Dealpath's application and platform architecture to support scale, reliability, and faster product delivery.
- Partner with engineering leadership to translate business needs into technical strategy and an architectural roadmap.
- Lead architecture and design reviews across teams: system design, data modeling, API design, service boundaries.
- Drive cross-cutting initiatives including platform modularization, API consistency, integration patterns, data quality, and performance optimization.
- Collaborate with DevOps to ensure our cloud applications scale safely and reliably.
AI Architecture & Engineering Innovation
- Own Dealpath's AI architecture strategy and define how we integrate LLMs, build AI-assisted workflows, and leverage agent-based tooling across the platform.
- Lead the engineering organization in adopting AI-native development practices, including scalable AI code generation and AI-assisted coding at scale.
- Establish standards, guardrails, and best practices for AI tooling across the engineering team.
- Stay ahead of the rapidly evolving AI engineering landscape and bring high-signal insights back to the team.
Engineering Excellence
- Establish and reinforce best practices for maintainability, security, performance, and operational excellence including testing, observability, and resiliency.
- Stay hands-on when needed: prototyping, critical-path implementation, debugging, and technical deep dives.
Team & Culture
- Serve as a player-coach, with greater emphasis on technical leadership and coaching: lead architectural design across the organization, support teams in making strong system design decisions, and guide a team of 5 Platform Engineers through project definition, delegation, and execution oversight.
- Lead a dedicated platform engineering team focused on improving scalability, updating coding standards, and driving engineering efficiency.
- Mentor engineers and raise the bar on engineering quality, architectural thinking, and execution.
- Influence without direct authority, bringing teams along through clarity, credibility, and strong communication.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant ownership of architecture and system design for cloud-based SaaS products.
- Strong computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, concurrency, distributed systems concepts, and API design).
- Experience designing and scaling backend systems and web applications, including reliability, performance, and data integrity.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-team technical initiatives and influence without direct authority.
- Deep understanding of architecture patterns and tradeoffs (modular monolith, service-oriented architecture, microservices, event-driven patterns).
- Proficiency in scalable AI code generation.
- Strong experience with relational databases (MySQL or similar), schema design, and production data migrations.
- Excellent communication skills: able to explain tradeoffs, risks, and sequencing to technical and non-technical partners.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to Haves
- Highly preferred to have experience working with Ruby in a production SaaS environment.
- Experience with modern frontend development (React, TypeScript, JavaScript).
- Track record modernizing a monolith (modularization, domain boundaries, incremental service extraction).
- Experience building enterprise-grade integrations (REST, webhooks, SSO/SAML, audit logging, data import/export pipelines).
- Experience with cloud infrastructure and production operations (AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD, monitoring/alerting, incident response).
- Familiarity with security and compliance expectations for enterprise SaaS (e.g., SOC 2) and secure-by-design practices.
- Interest in real estate, fintech, capital markets, or data-heavy workflow platforms.
The Perks & Culture
Join a team that's shaping the future of real estate investment backed by the industry's most influential firms and led by people who've built and scaled enterprise software before.
- Compensation: $250,000 to $275,000 base salary, commensurate with experience, plus eligibility for Dealpath’s equity plan.
